2021-07-14 14:15:38 +0000 UTC View PostDespite being away visiting family, I'm getting my runs in, though I'm neglecting a critical part of training - the stretching, foam rolling, cross training and resting. These 'little things' are so important when training hard towards a running goal. Time to refocus once I'm back home.
2021-07-13 20:20:33 +0000 UTC View PostChurch of the Sunday Long Run. Early morning half marathon on these trails before it gets hot. I need to start increasing the distance on these long runs now, in preparation for the September marathon.
2021-07-11 14:46:01 +0000 UTC View PostIntervals for breakfast. I was up early to beat the heat and run 6x300m, then a 12km trail run. Now spending the day by the lake.
2021-07-09 20:16:36 +0000 UTC View PostEnjoying some downtime at the lake; still training though. The cold water felt good on my post run legs.
2021-07-08 23:04:49 +0000 UTC View PostVacation time! I'm hoping to get new pics at the lake tomorrow, until then here's one I like.
2021-07-07 17:32:53 +0000 UTC View PostWith the cooler temps my tempo run felt so good and relaxed. I ran 16km at a tempo pace. If you're trying get faster, the tempo run (along with easy runs, a weeklyΒ long run, some speedwork, and rest) is a key part of training. It's any run, or continuous portion of a run, that is faster than your easy, conversational pace.
2021-07-06 01:34:14 +0000 UTC View PostWeather has finally cooled down; perfect for running. Though I'm sure I'll still get lots of wear out of my white tank top this summer. 16km uptempo run planned!

2021-07-03 23:18:04 +0000 UTC View PostAt a family reunion of sorts and trying to squeeze in training. I keep hearing 'you're on vacation, just take the day off,' but when you have a goal, you need to be 100% all in. Decided to do a fartlek, which is Swedish for speed play. 12x400 hard, 400 easy. The key is to not let the easy part be too slow; it's a change of pace workout. Also battled heat and the wind, but it's done. All in!!
2021-07-03 18:27:51 +0000 UTC View PostTough getting in training when you're traveling, plus it's a blistering 39 celcius here too. I opted for the treadmill, and decided to make it a tempo run. A great sweat!
2021-07-03 01:21:07 +0000 UTC View PostHappy Canada Day! π¨π¦ Yesterday was 20km over 2 runs; I started today with 14k, and a second short run planned. With this heat wave I'm just focusing on slow volume, without the intensity. Just have to get the miles in; I have a marathon in September. Time to build!

2021-06-30 13:37:49 +0000 UTC View PostLast night was a slow 6.5 miles in the heat. It was rough waking up early to get a run in, but with another day at 35 celcius expected, and volunteering at a track and field competition tonight, it was necessary. I need to catch up on my sleep; as that's when we recover and get stronger from the training. Can't forget to stay hydrated today too.
2021-06-29 14:21:47 +0000 UTC View PostIt's a hot one outside today; very little clothing needed. Planning my second run in the heat π₯
2021-06-28 22:36:42 +0000 UTC View PostI fell short of my 120 km goal ending the week with 109km. Still solid, and it's a new week tomorrow with new goals. Plus it's bikini weather all week!

2021-06-27 21:57:43 +0000 UTC View PostWater, hat, sunscreen, self-belief, grit, and determination - check. Ready for my longest, hardest run of the week, and I'm doing it on tired legs. We're running a route appropriately called blod and guts - it's hilly. I purposely run with guys faster than me for my long run, they don't care if I can't keep up, they just go. So time to get out of my comfort zone and dig deep.
2021-06-26 13:15:17 +0000 UTC View PostHappy Friday! There's a heat wave coming here. Stay cool.
2021-06-25 14:42:27 +0000 UTC View PostFriday is a fairly light training day. One shorter, quicker run tonight, with a few 400m to stay sharp, in preparation for my longest, hardest, hilly run tomorrow morning.
2021-06-25 14:34:38 +0000 UTC View PostEarly morning run in the rain; refreshing. I love running in the rain, I also love a warm shower, and dry clothes. π
2021-06-24 15:12:08 +0000 UTC View PostSecond run done, 20 km day. Now back at it early tomorrow morning for the same thing. Time to stretch and foam roll. I know there are lots of theories on stretching, but for me stretching all major muscle groups post run keeps me healthy, loose and feeling good.
2021-06-24 03:18:38 +0000 UTC View PostThat was a tough one last night in the heat and wind on a hilly loop. I did not want to get up and run this morning, but Leah the husky needed to get out before the heat, and I need the volume. I have to stay the course to reach the goal.

2021-06-22 18:58:31 +0000 UTC View PostA big training week planned, target is 125km. Today is a 2 run day; 4 miles before work, 7 miles after. Beautiful day for it too!
2021-06-21 21:58:05 +0000 UTC View PostLegs are sore from the race yesterday, it was a tough course with tough terrain. Decided to let my body recover and do 60 minutes on the elliptical. The elliptical is a good cross training option when you need a day without pounding, but still want to sweat.
