Today is a recovery day to allow my body to heal and adapt to the training load. I still make sure to stretch, foam roll sore muscles, as well as hydrate. I ended the week with 130km (81 miles) in 6 days; including hills, a tempo run and a long run. Tomorrow I start it all again. Six weeks out from my marathon!

I wish I felt as fresh as I look in this photo. I got 32km (20 miles) in early this morning, despite poor sleep. It was tough, but I got it done. The human body is resilient, push your limits, but know when to rest too. And just keep showing up.

My new shoes have arrived! They are Saucony's version of the new technology. A few years ago Nike came out with racing shoes that had a carbon plate. World and national records were being smashed. The running world was saying, 'why is everyone running so fast?' They were released to the public and local runners were racking up PR's. The carbon plate improves energy return especially at toe-off, and they are still really light. Now, most of the big running shoe companies have their own version of the carbon plate. Today I got Saucony's endorphin pros. I took them for 4 easy miles and they feel amazing. I think I have my marathon shoe.

I'm marathon training, but watching the Olympics makes me want to hit the track again. Today was a tough tempo run. The heat, humidity, wind and a lot of miles on my legs already this week, made it tough. Though I didn't hit the times I wanted, it's still a quality day in those conditions. Keep showing up.

Today was a 90 minute progression run. The goal is to build stamina by running each 30 minute segment progressively faster. First 3rd is easy to moderate, middle 3rd moderate pace, and the last 3rd is mod to hard (half marathon race pace). Its one of those runs I both dread and get excited for. Today went well, I had to focus and work hard, but it went by fast. Total distance was over 12 miles.

Sometimes life gets in the way of our training plans. I missed 3 runs due to working and just life. I have to fight this compulsion to make up for it, and resist overloading my other days, as this can lead to injury and tired, heavy legs - I've learned this the hard way. Tomorrow is the most mportant run of the week, so instead I'll carry on as usual. It's better to turn it into a positive; the rest days were a chance to reset and recharge. Now I'll have fresher legs, and a hungrier mind. Plus Leah won't leave my side, in hopes of a run.

I'm two months out from my marathon. Not the marathon where I'll be chasing a fast time, that one will be in December, but I still want a solid race and qualify for the Boston and New York marathons. My weeks need to include; hill repeats or a long interval session, a tempo run, and a long quality run, plus I like 3 days of doubles for volume. Now is the time for consistency. Off to do hill repeats, and in new shoes!

I started the week yesterday with 2 runs; 60 minutes and 45 minutes. I like to do doubles 3 times a week for marathon training. I'm busy and can't always get longer runs in. Doubles are good for anyone; pressed for time, injury prone, or just want to get a lot of volume without trashing their legs for speed days etc. If you decide on doubles, ease into it; your second run would start out very short, and you need 4 hours in between runs. Of course the long run of the week still needs to be long, as that's the most important training day for marathon preparation.

This week's training has been so unstructured, between traveling and poor air quality which necessitated the treadmill. I've missed my long run, hilly trail run, and interval session. I did get a tempo run in, a fair amount of volume, and tomorrow I'm meeting a former track teammate for some 200s, which will be fun. This week's goal; structure!

The air quality is poor here due to forest fires. Last night I ignored the warnings and ran in it, but I paid the price. I'll be on the treadmill until it clears up. I usually tough out all conditions, but I need to be smart and think long term health. Steady 8 miles done; felt like 12 on the treadmill. 😄 Someone was sulking that she couldn't get outside.
