I tested the quad with a slow jog this morning, and it's still a wee sore. Unfortunately, I'll have to skip the 800m repeats I had planned, and continue to ease in. I can run, but I can't pick up the pace without feeling a tightness the inhibits my stride. Outfit of the day (OOTD). 🙂

It is so hard for me to take time off of running, but tonight it was necessary. I'm listening to my body, and an angry quad. One or two days off now may prevent a few weeks off of training. Plus I don't want to have to push through the marathon with a niggle. The work is done, I need to be smart and get to the start line healthy. Decided to make the most of it by catching up on my reading, and relaxing.

An easy 8 miles yesterday and an easy 4 miles this morning. I have a sore quadricep muscle from the race that has been lingering. I don't want to aggravate it further, so I'm backing slightly off the mileage, and I may need to postpone tonight's tempo run until it settles.

A day off of running yesterday was much needed. Another decent mileage week, then I begin the taper for the remaining two weeks, where I will reduce the volume but keep the intensity up. Most of the work is done, now it's time to sharpen and show up fresh.

Yesterday was great to be out in nature unplugged from technology for a day. I recommend finding time to connect with the natural world to de-stress, be present in the moment, enjoy the simple pleasures, and just reboot the brain. I too, need to do that more often. Today, a throwback to my school uniform.

A fun day in the beautiful Alberta mountains. Despite a fierce headwind and a hilly climb, I had a strong race. Feeling more confident with my training!

I'll be in the mountains today, crushing a hilly 15km at altitude.

Similar to my college racing bodysuit, just missing a few chunks of material. I wonder how fast I could run in this?

I apologize for not posting sooner, as I was unable to log in to OF for a day. I currently have 60 miles in 4 days, today will be two short easy runs as I'm part of a relay in the mountains tomorrow. It's a 100km relay, my portion is 15km, though it's primarily uphill. It'll be a good grind.

Happy hump day! Just two more until the weekend! My 14 miles went really well. Despite a windy day, I hit my paces and felt good, all this on tired legs. I'm purposely running on tired legs so when I taper (reduce my mileage) prior to the race, my race pace should feel easy.

Woke to cooler temps today, though it's going to be beautiful. I have an important run planned. A progression 14 miles, where I'll get down to marathon pace to really dial in race pace. I'm hoping it feels relaxed despite tired legs today.

My legs are still a wee tired from Saturday's long run, so I'm opting for 2 easy runs today, and tomorrow will be a quality semi-long run. Sometimes you need to readjust your plans to maximize the runs. At this point in the training cycle I want quality with the quantity. I've shifted the workouts to reflect what the race will be like, long and progressively harder. The sun is back!

It was a cool 5 degrees celcius and a windy run this morning; my husky loved it though. A warm shower felt great, and I'll definitely need this sweater today.

I enjoyed this day of rest; looking forward to another high volume week. Two more big weeks before I start to ease back.

I'm really feeling yesterday's 24 mile run. I was planning an easy 6 mile shakeout run, but I may need to skip it; lots of wee niggles. This morning will be stretching, and foam rolling. It's important to listen to your body, and know when to rest to maximize the benefits of training.

Today was a tough 24 mile run with the wind, and although I felt good, my legs were tired from this week's miles. I did the same loop 3 times and every time I ran by my house I wanted to stop, but I remembered my goal, and told myself how amazing I'd feel knowing it was done, and I was that much stronger physically and mentally.

It's going a busy morning with my long run, and I'm getting a late start. At least I can post a quick picture before I'm too tired. Wish me luck!

I decided to take today as a rest day. I have 78 miles in 5 days and tomorrow is 24 miles. As much as I'm building and trying to tax my body, I want the 24 miles to be quality as that run most mimics the marathon.

The rain and cooler temps have been so refreshing to run in; I needed a long sleeve shirt today. Although I can still wear a bikini at home, and dream of a beach with soft sand. After tonight's (rainy) run, I will have 78 miles in 5 days. My legs, though a wee tired, still feel really good. On target for my biggest mileage week!

I skipped my usual Tuesday speedwork last night as my legs were still tired from Sunday's long run (I usually do it Saturday). Today I opted for a 13 mile steady run to mimic what a marathon is like, long and steady. It went well despite tired legs, and gave me the confidence that I'm where I need to be. Believe in your plans, and stay the course.

Finally we got rain! The air quality is much better; I love running in the rain. It was so wet out, I should have just ran in my bathing suit. 😄

My legs were a wee bit tired from yesterday's 24 miles, though not as bad as I was expecting. After two recovery runs today, this bath felt great. Although a better way to speed up recovery is to take an ice bath for sore, tired muscles.

Post long run carnage; I had a hard time getting up off this treadmill. I had 22.5 miles (36km) planned today, but there was a special air quality, and a heat warning in effect. I opted for the treadmill and stretched it out 24 miles since the treadmill is more forgiving on the legs than cement. It was still slightly torturous, but it's done. One more deposit in the running bank; and hopefully plenty to withdraw on race day.

It's been a cut back week in mileage, which allows my body to adapt, refresh and prevents injury. Plus, I have my longest run planned for this Sunday, and I want it to be quality. Next week will be my highest mileage week in this marathon buildup.

Early morning short run, before a day at the lake. I had planned a longer run but life gets in the way sometimes. Squeezing in a short faster run, is better than nothing at all. Do what you can when on a tight schedule.

Just a wee sweaty on my runs lately. The humidity is tough; I've had to lower the intensity, and get up earlier than I'd prefer. I'm getting it done though!

Decided on 400m repeats to get small breaks from this heat and humidity. Can't wait for cool sheets post shower, and maybe a nap.
