Adventures at Henry Hagg Lake and saying goodbye to AZ photo dump. For those of you who this is news to: we left Arizona behind for now bc it’s cold as fuck there and we were spending too much money keeping warm. 🤪 Not being able to resupply on propane (our heat source) any closer than an hour away also did not help. Lol.
When we left I was feeling like a failure, but I’ve revised my thinking on that. Even though we failed in our original goal, we gained a crazy amount of knowledge and experience along the way. We saw wild horses, caught the biggest brown trout we’ve ever caught, seen some of the most beautiful parts of the country, learned a ton about boating on the river, spent two months mostly away from people and doing something we love. And I wouldn’t change it for the world.

First 4 Brown Trout caught and some beautiful scenery! The smallest brown we caught had this wicked wound behind his head! It looked like he almost got killed by a bird to me. It went down DEEP into his flesh! But still didn’t hit anything vital. Impressive creatures. A mammal would have bled out or died of infection.
We also saw feral horses!!! 😱 Then the dogs barked at them and scared them off! 😢😓
Oh! And the last photo is an implanted chip i found in one of the fins of the browns (the one that looks like a gnarly barracuda trout 😄) when I was filleting it up. Evidently it holds information for the researchers that put it there, but it’s so small I can’t imagine it will tell them more than when it was last caught by researchers (probably by a process called electro-fishing).
Sorry I’m slow at sharing! I’ll try to get better at doing it on a schedule. 😬
